MANILA, Philippines — The Traslacion of the Black Nazarene on January 9, 2022, has been rescheduled due to the continuing dangers posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fr. Douglas Badong, parochial vicar of the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene, also known as Quiapo Church, clarified that the Feast of the Black Nazarene would go on as planned, with only the procession being canceled.
Due to the pandemic, the Traslacion was also put on hold this year.
"Prusisyon lang naman ang wala, pero tuloy naman ang celebration," Fr. Douglas Badong told Inquirer over the phone, adding that other activities such as Holy Masses will continue.
Badong further pointed out that the Quirino Grandstand, which serves as the procession's beginning point, is still in operation as a COVID-19 field hospital.
According to Badong, Traslacion's cancellation in January of this year was the first in decades.
Let us continue to pray, Badong said. If the Black Nazarene wishes to come out, he will.
