MARCOS LEADING THE SURVEY OF PHILIPPINE PRESIDENTIAL

In a presidential preference survey conducted by pollster Pulse Asia Research Incorporation last December. The former Philippine Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr., often known as Bongbong Marcos (BBM), the son of the late dictator, came out on top by with a large gap.

According to Pulse Asia, BBM was picked by 53 percent of the 2,400 respondents as their favorite successor to President Rodrigo Duterte. The opposition leader, Vice President Leni Robredo, finished second with 20% of the vote. The poll was conducted from December 6 to December 8 of the year 2021, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2%.

However, BBM is facing many petitions before the elections commission to disqualify him or abandon his presidential run, most of which are based on his 1997 tax conviction. Marcos' campaign has claimed that he is qualified for the president and that he has committed no crimes that exclude him from running.

Moreover, President Rodrigo Duterte was among the top twelve candidates for Senate seats, but he pulled out last week. Former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, television personality Raffy Tulfo, and Congresswoman Loren Legarda are among the prominent candidates for senator.

The national and local elections will be held on the second Monday of May, with 8,000 government jobs up for grabs.
