Monday, 22nd of November, a heartbreaking news circulated around the net stating the death of the beloved Lola Francisca Susano in their house in Barangay Camingawan, Kabankalan, Negros Occidental. Leaving her 8 living children and grandchildren, the death of Lola Iska is yet to be determined by the local health office as per the city public information officer Jake Gonzales.
According to her granddaughter Merlene, at 3 in the afternoon, Lola Iska complained about her difficulty in breathing. It later on subsided and was eventually gone after she was massaged by a liniment oil. Hours later after the family’s evening prayer as per her granddaughter, after taking two deep breaths, Lola Iska passed away at the age of 124.
The Supercentenarian was born on the 11th of September year 1897, where the Philippines is still under the Spanish occupation. As she lived her fruitful and meaningful life up to the latter part of this year, she is considered as the oldest living person in the country, and possibly the world. After surpassing the 118 year-old title holder from Japan, Kane Tanaka. In September of the current year, the Guinness World Records underwent the verification of Lola Iska’s documents. But due to the failure of her family’s compliance, she is still not considered as the new title holder.
In line with her monumental achievements, Representative Rodolfo Odares of the Senior Citizen Partylist passed a resolution to the lower house, in order to grant Lola Francisca a P1 Million cash gift. On her 124th birthday last September, the plaque of recognition as the oldest living person in the world was given by the NCSC Commissioner Franklin Quijano, together with a flower bouquet, P10,000 cash, and a P24,000 manager’s check.
The news about the death of Lola Francisca Susano is truly saddening. The life led by Lola Iska left a mark and inspiration to a lot of people, mostly Filipinos and her family. Her life and story will always be remembered, her story has become a history.
