OCTA Research: Face shieds should not be required in theaters

by Kristine Doringo

MANILA, Philippines — The OCTA Research said on Tuesday that it supports the idea of not requiring the use of face shields in cinemas.

According to OCTA Research Fellow Guido David, watching movies will be unpleasant if the audience is required to wear face shields. He also mentioned that removing the requirement to wear face shields in cinemas was raised in a forum.

"We should continue to wear face masks, but face shields are a different story." That can be discussed, because we were in a Go Negosyo forum where they were debating whether or not to remove the requirement for face shields in theaters, which makes sense. "It would not be an enjoyable experience to go to a theater while wearing a face shield," Guido told ABS-CBN News Channel's Headstart.

When asked if he supports removing the requirement to wear face shields in theaters, David responded, "We would support it because I believe the move is to allow only vaccinated people to enter theaters."

The reopening of cinemas was previously permitted in Metro Manila as the region was elevated to Alert Level 3. Only fully vaccinated people, however, will be permitted in theaters with a 30 percent indoor seating capacity.

The Cinema Exhibitors Association of the Philippines (CEAP) had previously stated that movie theaters would reopen on November 10. One of the protocols for moviegoers is to wear face shields and masks while inside theaters.
